New official images from The Mandalorian give fans their first look at the characters played by Gina Carano and Carl Weathers. While this year marks the end of an era for Star Wars on film (with the premiere of The Rise of Skywalker), it also marks the beginning for the franchise in a new medium. At long last, the galaxy far, far away is coming to live-action TV with The Mandalorian, a series spearheaded by executive producer Jon Favreau. Running eight episodes long, the show boasts an all-star lineup of directors including Taika Waititi, Dave Filoni, and Bryce Dallas Howard (among others).
With The Mandalorian debuting on Disney+ this November, Celebration Chicago read as the ideal opportunity to promote the project. Indeed, there was a panel at the convention where Favreau, Filoni and some members of the cast were on hand to tease what they have in store. Unlike The Rise of Skywalker, the panel did not end with an official teaser trailer, but Lucasfilm did share some new photos of the characters.
Following the conclusion of the Mandalorian panel, the studio released a batch of images, giving fans their first looks at some of the new characters. In addition to fresh glimpses Pedro Pascal’s titular Mandalorian, Gina Caraon’s Cara Dune and Carl Weather’s Greef were also spotlighted. Check them out in the space below:
Much of The Mandalorian remains heavily guarded for the time being, but the actors were able to reveal some small details about their characters. Cara Dune is an ex-Rebel shock trooper who’s described as a bit of a loner struggling to re-acclimate into society. Greef, on the other hand, is the head of a bounty hunter guild who ends up hiring The Mandalorian for a mysterious job. In all likelihood, The Mandalorian and Cara end up working together to accomplish the mission, but it remains to be seen how that dynamic plays out. Regardless, The Mandalorian looks like it will be a deep-dive exploration into the galactic underworld, fully fleshing out a corner of the universe that’s only been hinted at before. The Empire will also have a heavy presence on the show; set photos depicted stormtroopers and Mandalorian footage shown during the panel revealed Giancarlo Esposito’s character is some kind of Imperial officer looking to keep their control over the galaxy intact.
While these images obviously don’t delve into the show’s plot, they do illustrate all of the time and care that went into crafting The Mandalorian. The photos look like they could be from one of the feature films, meaning Lucasfilm is taking their Disney+ endeavors very seriously and went the extra mile to make them special. With the Star Wars movies going on hiatus for a couple of years after The Rise of Skywalker, the studio will be counting on their TV shows to be one of the franchise’s main attractions and help fill the void. If the early looks at The Mandalorian are anything to go by, fans will definitely love what Favreau and crew delivered.
