The 2016 U.S. presidential election was certainly one for the history books. Hillary Clinton became the fifth person in history to win the popular vote but lose the election due to the electoral collage; controversy continues to rage on about Russia’s alleged hacking of the U.S. election; fake news sites have apparently affected how numerous people voted; and President Elect Donald Trump just can’t seem to keep off Twitter.
Trump’s Twitter feed was already infamous before the election, but that infamy seems to have grown exponentially over the past year in particular. Mark Hamill, the actor known for playing Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars franchise, is now using his other most famous role to satirize Trump’s Twitter postings too. Since 1992, Hamill has been voicing The Clown Prince of Crime, The Joker, in various Batman cartoons, video games, and other media - and for the last nine days, he’s been voicing Trump’s most polarizing tweets in the same voice as his animated Joker.
The most recent tweets to get the Trumpster treatment from Hamill are the ones that Trump posted about Congressman John Lewis, after Lewis publicly stated he would not attend Trump’s inauguration as the new U.S president. Trump’s latest Twitter comments have provoked controversy yet again, what with Lewis having been a leader in the 1960s Civil Rights Movement; one who was close friends with Martin Luther King Jr. Since these Tweets, photographic evidence of Lewis on the front lines of the Movement have emerged, including some of him marching with King and of him getting beaten by police during peaceful protests. Lewis clearly is a man of action, and his actions helped change this country immeasurably. Adding insult to injury is the fact that Trump posted these tweets only two days before the 2017 Martin Luther King Day holiday.
