Fans plays Alan Silvestri’s now iconic “The Avengers” theme in a theater as they wait for their Avengers: Endgame screening to begin. It’s been 21 films spread across more than 10 years leading up the culmination of The Infinity Saga that all began in 2008 with Jon Favreau and Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man. And in preparation for the film, some Marvel enthusiasts opted to psyche themselves up by playing the Avengers’ main score prior to their viewing of the film.

Brought by the seasoned Marvel Studios team of directors Joe and Anthony Russo and writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, Endgame picks up after the tragic events of Avengers: Infinity War where Thanos emerged victorious in decimating half of life in the universe using the completed Infinity Gauntlet. With the MCU heroes dealing with their first ever real defeat, the film opens up with them scrambling for any way to rectify the predicament that the Mad Titan forced them in. General consensus for the film is that Kevin Feige and his squad nailed the landing, with Avengers 4 being described as the perfect culmination of the last decade in the universe. But since it also marks the end of an era, fans are preparing themselves to say goodbye to its founding heroes, and what better way to do that than to pay homage using their official main theme.

Shared on Twitter by user with the handle TheLifeof_Ja is a video during a screening of Endgame where a band of friends brought in instruments and played “The Avengers” theme composed by Silvestri for the 2012, Joss Whedon-directed The Avengers as they wait for the movie to begin. The group didn’t do the complete song, but just enough build up its dramatic chorus and it was all they needed to hype not just themselves but other people as well in the cinema in Israel. Watch the full clip below:

While Silvestri’s composition is now officially the Avengers’ theme, it wasn’t always the case. After it was debuted in 2012 and used in that iconic spinning shot of the six core Avengers during the Battle of New York, it was discarded for Avengers: Age of Ultron. Instead, Marvel Studios tapped Danny Elfman to create a brand new theme for MCU’s premier heroes. It wasn’t until Infinity War when they leaned back into that original theme by using a slowed down version of the song in Avengers 3’s first teaser trailer. That clip resonated with a lot of fans and the choice of music enhanced the whole viewing experience. And they continued to use it throughout their promotional campaign for both Endgame and its prequel, changing up the tempo to suit any moment from trailers.

Bringing Silvestri’s theme back is arguably one of the best moves for Marvel Studios in recent times. Much has been said about the bland music of the MCU, as they used to not retain previously established themes for their heroes, particularly in their earlier years. But by establishing an official Avengers theme in Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, now people have a musical association with the Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, and every time it plays, it’s difficult not to get nostalgic about the franchise.
