It has long been suspected that Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie would have some sort of presence in the Avengers: Endgame, and Marvel is finally confirming her role in the movie.

After capturing Thor and turning him over to the Grandmaster in Thor: Ragnarok, Valkyrie switched sides and became a key ally to the God of Thunder in the battle against Hela. Together, Thor, Hulk, Valkyire, Loki, Heimdall, and gladiators from Sakaar saved the people of Asgard. Loki and Heimdall were both casualties of Thanos in the opening scene of Avengers: Infinity War when Thanos attacked. Both Thor and Hulk survived, but there were a few Thor: Ragnarok characters whose fates were left a mystery. Among them were Korg and Valkyrie.

Marvel has released several Avengers: Endgame character posters with the caption, “Avenge the Fallen”. The posters that are in black and white indicate heroes killed either directly by Thanos or by “The Snap”. One of the posters features Valkyrie in full color, which means that the character is indeed in the film. The poster is also confirmation that Valkyrie wasn’t a victim of “The Snap”, and won’t simply be revived at the end of the movie. Though this was already stated by Tessa Thompson and Infinity War director Joe Russo, this is the first time Marvel has acknowledged her survival and involvement in Avengers: Endgame.

Thompson was believed to have a role in the film ever since the actress was spotted at Avengers: Endgame reshoots with Thor actor Chris Hemsworth in Atlanta. However, Valkyrie wasn’t in either trailer, nor was Tessa Thompson’s name on the Avengers: Endgame poster which included 16 actors appearing in the movie.

Valkyrie’s absence from the trailers and most of the promotional material could suggest that the character’s role in the movie will be minimal at best. That being said, the fact that she is featured on the “Avenge the Fallen” posters could be evidence that Valkyrie will be one of the many heroes recruited for the battle with Thanos. Valkyrie’s role may be limited to a large-scale action scene at the end of the movie. Regardless, Valkyrie was a fan-favorite character from Thor: Ragnarok, so any role at all will likely be welcomed by fans of the Asgardian bounty hunter.

As Marvel continues to release character posters for Avengers: Endgame, more details may be revealed about other unexpected additions to the cast. It’s possible that there are other heroes in the film who have yet to be officially confirmed by Marvel.
