Marvel has two as-yet unannounced MCU TV shows in the works for Disney+, but what could these series be about? Marvel TV shows have had a mixed response since beginning with Agents of SHIELD back in 2013, with various series blowing hot and cold. Now, however, that looks to be remedied: Marvel Television is no more, and Marvel Studios - with Kevin Feige at the top - is overseeing the TV output now. That’s combined with the big push towards Disney+ from the Mouse House, which means we’re getting a number of Marvel TV shows on the streaming service over the next few years.

Two of these will be arriving later this year, with Falcon & The Winter Soldier confirmed to be dropping in August 2020, and then WandaVision coming a few months later in December. It’s expected that Loki will debut in the first half of 2021, and after that there are a host of other shows on the horizon, including: What If…?, Hawkeye, She-Hulk, Ms. Marvel, and Moon Knight. That’s an already extensive line-up of series, but true to form the MCU isn’t planning on slowing down any when it comes to Marvel Disney+ TV shows.

During the Walt Disney Studios earnings call, CEO Bob Iger referred to seven Marvel series being in various stages of development for the streaming service, alongside Falcon & Winter Soldier, WandaVision, and Loki. We only know of five others, which means there are two TV series yet to be revealed. It’s possible that Iger misspoke, but the comment does match up with a recent rumor about two new Marvel TV shows being in the works for Disney+. Assuming, then, that really is the case - and based on how Marvel run the movie side of things, it makes sense - then what could these mystery shows be? As per the aforementioned rumor, one might be a take on Secret Invasion, which regardless of internet chatter is something that does fit with where the MCU is right now.

Secret Invasion was a 2008 crossover storyline in Marvel Comics, which revealed a shockingly long-term infiltration of Earth by the Skrulls, with many world leaders and Marvel superheroes secretly being replaced by the shapeshifting aliens. While the MCU’s take on the Skrulls made them into the good guys thanks to Captain Marvel, it’s still widely believed that Secret Invasion will be tackled in some form. Spider-Man: Far From Home’s end-credits scene revealed there are still Skrulls on Earth, and it’s possible more could arrive, and not all of them be so good. This kind of plot is very much suited to long-form storytelling rather than a two-hour movie, so a Disney+ series would work. What’s more, it ties in with lots of other MCU plans: WandaVision will include SWORD, which is who Fury is working with at the end of Far From Home. That show also includes Monica Rambeau, which alongside the Ms. Marvel series will link to Captain Marvel 2. A Secret Invasion show would further help this connectivity.

As for the other unannounced Marvel Disney+ TV show, there are a couple of options. Kevin Feige has long spoken of his desire to bring Nova, aka Richard Rider, to the MCU, but so far a movie has yet to materialize. That might be because they’re saving his story for Disney+. The Nova Corps may be gone, but that can add greater weight to his story. Doing it on TV would allow for a big space-adventure series, something that’s different to the other Marvel TV shows in the works, but fits with the idea of Phase 4 going more cosmic. Again, it’s a strong branch between the movies and TV shows.

The other big possibility right now is a Young Avengers series. Again, it’s widely thought that the superhero team will be brought to the screen in some way. With Kate Bishop appearing in Hawkeye, a Ms. Marvel series happening, and WandaVision expected to introduce Wiccan and Speed, then there are various pieces in place for the Disney+ shows to build to a big team-up event series like Young Avengers. There are, of course, many other options Marvel have - something like a Rocket & Groot spin-off seems likely a few years down the line - but right now the most likely unannounced Marvel TV shows for Disney+ are Secret Invasion, and then either Nova or Young Avengers.
