Comic fans had no idea that when a mysterious young superheroine showed up with the powers of a younger, better Captain Marvel, she would turn out to be a villain in disguise. But when the dust settled, Star wasn’t just an enemy to Carol Danvers, she was somehow getting her own comic book. Now readers understand why.

Eventually Star was revealed to be a manipulated former reporter named Ripley Ryan, but her biggest twist came when she was defeated, charged, and locked up… only to find out what power truly resided inside of her: The Reality Stone. Like all other Infinity Stones, it had sought out a soul and host to call its own. Leaving her prison behind, Star set out to learn the true limits of her newfound power. And when you’re dealing with power over reality itself, that could be a problem. A problem that just put a galaxy-sized target on Star’s back.

For the record, it appears Ripley still has a lot of issues to sort out for herself, making her a less than ideal host for the Reality Stone (we fully expect to learn why she is secretly the perfect choice, but that’s what her coming Star comic series is for). From Marvel’s official solicitations for their March comics, it appears Ripley a.k.a. Star intends to unlock the potential power of the Reality Stone so that she can exact some form of revenge or justice for her perceived wrongs.

To prevent that from happening – or to simply use it for the exact same purposes, but on their own targets – some of Marvel’s cosmic characters are going to descend on the young woman to take the Reality Stone off her hands. By which we mean “out of her body.” And at least one of those hunters looks to be Thor’s own brother, Loki. Check out the covers by Carmen Carnero and RAHZZAH below:

Writer Kelly Thompson assured fans that there was a plan for Star not knowable in the short term, and the Reality Stone twist was the payoff. Similarly, Captain Marvel’s mission to kill the Avengers was a story Thompson trusted fans would take one issue at a time. Now Captain Marvel is confirmed to not be a murderer, so it’s probably best to give her the benefit of the doubt when it comes to Star. But until the issue arrives, read on below for the solicitation details and plot synopsis.
