Marvel’s Avengers have faced off against all different types of villains during their storied history - from Atlanteans to frost giants, to some of the deadliest villains across the galaxy. The iconic superhero group hasn’t met a villain they aren’t willing to throw down with. So, how will the future Avengers take on a vampire of the Wasteland?
Following the events of Old Man Quill and Dead Man Logan, the upcoming Avengers of the Wasteland series will see a new group of future Avengers in the Wastelands in a world where most of the superheroes were wiped out by Red Skull 50 years prior. The series follows Dani Cage, the daughter of Luke Cage and Jessica Jones who wields Mjolnir as the Thor of the Wasteland, Dwight (with Ant-Man tech) and Hulk as they take on Doctor Doom’s regime during trying post-apocalyptic times.
In the preview for the upcoming Avengers of the Wasteland #3, the future Avengers quest in the Wastelands will take the new team against a surprising villain: Baron Blood and his legion of vampires. Born John Falsworth, Blood was the wealthy son of lords in the late Victorian era. In the comics, he seeks out Dracula to take his wealth and power but ends up being turned into a vampire. More recently, in All-New Captain America, Blood was resurrected by Baron Zemo and Hydra in an effort to take down an Inhuman who could sterilize humans.
Speaking of characters coming back, it appears Captain America will be joining the future Avengers, as a version of Cap is shown on the preview image for the third issue cover. How Captain America is back and in the future remains to be seen, but he’s a welcome addition to the future Avengers. The team probably could use someone with experience at the helm.
The Avengers of the Wastelands will be in one of the darkest timelines Marvel has ever created, and throwing vampires into the mix won’t make things easier for them. Taking on the undead will be one of the many challenges the future Avengers will face. If Old Man Logan and other future-based Marvel stories has told us anything, it’s to expect a bloody, apocalyptic adventure.
