Daniel Radcliffe has officially debunked the rumors that he’s in the running for Marvel’s Moon Knight. It was previously reported that Radcliffe was being seriously considered for the lead role in the upcoming Disney+ series, which is one of many Marvel shows in development for the streamer. The first, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, will arrive in August. Moon Knight has yet to score an official release date, but it’s currently expected sometime in 2021 with production beginning this summer.

Few details are known about Moon Knight at this point beyond the fact that Jeremy Slater (The Umbrella Academy) has been tapped to head the writers’ room. Like other Disney+ shows She-Hulk and Ms. Marvel, Moon Knight will introduce a hero who has yet to be seen in a Marvel movie, but is expected to have roles in future MCU films. It’s unclear if the series will follow the character’s comic backstory, but if so, Moon Knight will follow Marc Spector, the son of a rabbi who is gifted powers by the Egyptian Moon God Khonshu.

Radcliffe’s name was among the first tossed around for Moon Knight, but now he is saying that isn’t the case. While speaking to ComingSoon.net, Radcliffe explained, “The Moon Knight rumors are untrue, I can officially debunk that one, I haven’t heard anything about it.” Radcliffe is best known for playing Harry Potter in the eight-film franchise of the same name, and since that came to a close, he has mainly stuck to independent films. However, he isn’t against to returning to the world of franchises. Radcliffe said, “If I was ever to go back into a franchise, I think the bar for that script would be even higher than anything else… I’m not averse to doing any kind of franchise thing in the future again, that could be fun.”

Radcliffe can currently be seen in TBS’s anthology comedy Miracle Workers, and he will next appear in the wild and violent Guns Akimbo. At the current moment, however, it’s looking like Radcliffe won’t be joining the MCU any time soon. While adding Harry Potter himself to the MCU would be a thrill, it doesn’t seem like Radcliffe is exactly what Moon Knight’s casting team is looking for, seeing as their casting breakdown expressed interest in a Jewish-Israeli Zac Efron-type.

With Moon Knight not supposed to begin production until this summer, casting news for the series might still be a ways off. Fans have been coming up with ideas ever since the series was announced, with The Invisible Man star Oliver Jackson-Cohen popping up as a recent pick. It’s a bit disappointing to learn Radcliffe hasn’t spoken to Marvel about any potential role, but there’s always a chance he could appear in the future. After all, the MCU has projects set for 2022 and beyond. There will be plenty of chances for him to join the Marvel universe.
