When the lines of warfare and wizardry seem to be blurred, you can’t go wrong recruiting both Captain America and the Incredible Hulk. Well, unless the two heroes are merged into a single body – which is exactly what’s going to happen in Avengers/Defenders: Tarot.

When the miniseries was announced, written by Alan Davis with art by Paul Renaud, Tarot #1 promised to bring both the Avengers and Defenders together for a one of a kind mission. When Namor the Sub-Mariner recovers a long-lost memory from his time During World War II, he turns to his ally (and former teammate on the Invaders) for help. It is this strange memory that is said to bring both of their former teams in on the action. But where fans were told that “a labyrinth of pain, destruction and madness” was incoming for the book’s heroes, nobody ever warned that Hulk was going to become Captain America.

Hard as it may be to believe – especially considering Hulk is already the next Spider-Man – the Marvel solicitations for March 2020 confirm Hulk and Cap will become one. How will Cap’s costume manage to stretch and accommodate as well as Bruce Banner’s magical Hulk pants? That question will have to wait. But whatever the excuse, no fan can claim the covers by Paul Renaud and Alan Davis doesn’t pique the curiosity. And we’d be lying if we said Captain America didn’t look good in green. Check out the covers below:

The exact nature of the magical threat, the ‘Tarot’ name, and the overall story for the series is being kept under wraps (with a twist like this on the cover of the issue, fans can be glad Marvel is holding something back). But with the synopsis for Avengers/Defenders: Tarot #3 teasing an encounter between the two heroic teams and the “most unbelievable Marvel characters” readers can imagine, all bets are off for where this journey will end.
