A new round of DLC alternate costumes for Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order has just been released earlier this week, providing new looks for some of Marvel’s most popular characters. This free batch of new skins came out on January 28th, showing off some Symbiote-based versions of Spider-Gwen and Venom, as well as street clothes looks for Miles Morales and Ms. Marvel.

Developed for the Nintendo Switch by Koei Tecmo’s Team Ninja and released on July 19, 2019, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order serves as a reboot of sorts to the popular Marvel-based action RPG series, taking place in a different continuity than the previous two games and pitting the heroes of the Marvel Universe against Thanos and the titular Black Order akin to Avengers: Infinity War. Several free-of-charge costumes for characters already in the game have been released, as well as two priced batches of DLC characters, one featuring supernatural and street-based warriors like Punisher, Blade, Moon Knight, and Morbius, and a second adding X-Men characters Cable, Phoenix, Gambit and Iceman. A third wave of characters, consisting of the Fantastic Four and Doctor Doom, is planned for this spring.

Nintendo of America announced the new DLC Pack on their Twitter page on January 29th, just a day after it was released to the public. The alternate skins consist of Spider-Gwen’s “Gwenom” outfit, Venom’s “Anti-Venom” persona, and “Street Wear” appearances for Miles Morales/Spider-Man and Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel. Check out the tweet, including the designs for the new costumes, below:

For the uninitiated, Spider-Gwen took on the persona of “Gwenom” after she was bonded to her universe’s version of the Venom Symbiote, which served as a replacement for her then-failing powers in addition to providing new ones like web-based tendrils and shape-shifting. Likewise, Eddie Brock became Anti-Venom after the Venom Symbiote left him and Mr. Negative cured him of his cancer via his light-based powers. As a side effect, the remaining Venom cells in Brock’s system merged with his white blood cells to form a new symbiote that granted Eddie the ability to “cure” people of their illnesses or mutations. Unfortunately, this also includes Spider-Man’s radiation-based abilities, leading to a whole new problem whenever Spidey would find himself in conflict with the new and improved Venom.

The DLC’s apparent focus on Symbiotes and Spider-Man characters is interesting in the wake of the recent Morbius trailer, which hinted at a connection between Sony’s planned series of films (which Symbiotes like Venom are set to play a huge role) and Marvel Studio’s own Cinematic Universe. Jared Leto’s upcoming turn as the Living Vampire has demonstrated a number of links to Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, such as a surprise appearance from Michael Keaton’s Adrian Toomes. Both of these things, along with a rumored appearance by Spider-Man in the upcoming Venom 2, have led fans to believe that Sony’s films will have a loose connection to the MCU in a similar vein to Netflix’s short-lived series of Marvel shows. Although no one can say for sure, it seems that this might have influenced Team Ninja’s choices for this DLC pack, which players can now download for Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order in Nintendo’s eShop.
