In The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel season 3, Midge goes on tour as the supporting act for singer Shy Baldwin, performing at a casino in Las Vegas and then a hotel in Florida. Meanwhile, her parents struggle to cope after losing their apartment, and Midge’s former husband Joel looks for a new lease on life by opening a nightclub in Chinatown. Midge’s manager, Susie, finds herself juggling responsibilities as she takes on a new client - Midge’s nemesis, Sophie Lennon.

Midge has come a long way since she first staggered into a comedy club wearing only a nightgown and a coat, flashed the audience and subsequently got arrested. However, she still has some way to go before she becomes the comedy rock star that Susie believes she can be. Here’s what we know so far about The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel season 4.

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Season 4 Story Details

Warning: SPOILERS ahead for The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel season 3.

Midge’s career climbed to new heights in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel season 3 - culminating in a performance in front of an enormous audience at the Apollo Theater. But that’s also where she came crashing down, after Shy Baldwin’s manager, Reggie, settled her nerves by encouraging her to tell stories riffing on her adventures on tour with Shy. Midge, who had learned that Shy is secretly gay, made a few too many references to Judy Garland, make-up, and fancy clothes in her set. For Shy, staying in the closet is a matter of survival, given that the show is set in 1960, and he was understandably not happy with the picture she painted and jokes like “he’s got a guy for everything!”

So, when Midge and Susie arrive at the airport for the next leg of their tour, they are greeted by Reggie, who informs Midge that she won’t be going on tour with Shy after all. This is a bombshell, as Midge had already planned to use the money from the tour to buy her and Joel’s old apartment from Moishe Maisel - not to mention the fact that touring with Shy was going to be a big step for her career. Whereas season 2 ended with Midge on the road to stardom, season 3 ends with her future looking suddenly uncertain.

That doesn’t mean that Midge’s career as a stand-up is over, but it does mean that The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel season 4 will most likely find her doing stand-up in her home town of New York once again. The latest season ends without any clear-cut love interests for Midge, but who knows - perhaps in season 4, she and Lenny Bruce will finally go that extra step.
