Few new games of this generation have been as massively anticipated as Mass Effect: Andromeda, a revival of one of last generation’s most storied franchises with so much built-in clout that it even stood out among high-profile launches like Horizon: Zero Dawn, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild and an entire new console from Nintendo, The Switch. But with the last Mass Effect game having ended on a controversial note and a largely new team handling the new series, fans were also primed to be apprehensive – especially for a franchise whose details are obsessed over like few others in the medium.

Sure enough, Andromeda’s launch has been plagued by player complaints – not only about the story and new characters, but about gameplay issues, design problems and issues with the animations of the game’s characters. These complaints range from “not enough options” to issues with the menu system to the game’s lackluster animations in dialogue-heavy cut scenes. A forthcoming patch, due Thursday, was set to address some of these issues – and now BioWare has revealed what kind of adjustments are on the way.

The details were part of an official release from Aaryn Flynn, BioWare’s general manager. In it, Flynn thanked players before addressing the various areas of concern voiced by the same group. The release doesn’t waste much time in terms of talking about the specifics of the complaints and instead offers gamers a look at what they can expect later this week. Check out the list of fixes below:

  • Allowing you to skip ahead when traveling between planets in the galaxy map Increasing the inventory limits Improving the appearance of eyes for humans and asari characters Decreasing the cost of Remnant decryption keys and making them more accessible at merchants Improving localized voice over lip sync Fixing Ryder’s movements when running in a zig zag pattern Improving matchmaking and latency in multiplayer

In addition to the immediate issues being addressed, Flynn also presented a number of other changes that will be coming in future patches down the line. Though he was less specific in terms of when these patched would be released, Flynn did say they are expected over the next two months. Players can expect the following:

  • More options and variety in the character creator Improvements to hair and general appearance for characters Ongoing improvements to cinematic scenes and animations Improvements to male romance options for Scott Ryder Adjustments to conversations with Hainly Abrams

It’s safe to say that while it’s good that BioWare is addressing the issues with its game so quickly, the fixes will likely come under an equal amount of scrutiny after they have been tested. It will be interesting to see how gamers react and whether or not they feel the game and its gameplay have been improved to the standard held by its predecessors.
